Power Temple

A Revolutionary Concept for Energy Consumers upto 33kV

The Snehankit Power Temple is an enclosed system to operate 11 KV-22 KV - 33 KV high tension electric supply for the consumers of electric energy. It serves both types of consumers - i.e. new establishments as well as converting existing consumers of overhead high tension sub-stations.

Since the installation is enclosed totally by insulation material painted in attractive colours, it looks like a Temple

Power Temple: How an idea was conceived - B.G. Shirolkar (BE)

My experience of the last decade as an electrical contractor, has been a driving factor behind the development of the power temple. As I had an opportunity to work for transformers and structures, mainly 2 and 4-pole structures, especially maintenance and painting, I came across various problems that affect the work personnel on such structures.

Shutdowns from MSEB are a painful experience. Pain and effort apart, it is also a grave hazard to the very lives of the personnel. There have been instances of work persons having fallen off from these structures due to accumulated rust in them. Injuries, burns and deaths are common. But there is no safeguard against such mishaps as long as these structures are in vogue. Painting them regularly is mandatory because of the insistence of the Electrical Inspector.

Alongside my work as an electrical contractor, I also came across liasioning work, providing an opportunity to approach the above problem through a different perspective.

MSEB insists for a 2 or 4-pole structure at the entrance of the company, causing heartburns to the company's architects and owners and rightly so, because it undeniably compromises the aesthetic value of the premises. Resistance to any new concept is legendary in our country. The ever present hazard of bird-hits on this electrical installation makes the life of company owners miserable. The continuing fix inspired me to do something to replace the 2 and 4 - pole structures.

I observed the bursting of the transformer on a particular DP structure. I shuddered at the prospect of the whole DP falling down, following rains. A major fatality was certain to take place, but by sheer good fortune, nothing happened. But one cannot be counting on the intervention of providence each time. After all it is a question of one's life and safety.

My initial instinct was to operate an HT switch like a Railway Signal and I thence made the requisite arrangements of chains, and bend pulleys, etc. I then made bevel gear boxes (four of them were HT). The switch was on one side and the operating handle was remotely placed. The idea was gaining shape but not yet close to my concept. I also tried a bicycle chain to operate the HT switch. The rack and pinion then followed, and finally the semblance of a power temple began to take shape.

The Snehankit Power Temple eliminates this problem by unobtrusively and beautifully blending with the factory premises. I thought that the structure was too big, but once in a factory premise, it hardly  occupies any significant space. A DP has burst but the temple remained unaffected, with clients only having to change the fuse. This provides supreme satisfaction as far as one's efforts are concerned.
